We are in Landspítali Fossvogur, on the second floor, E2.

After your registration with your kennitala in the machine at the main reception of the building, follow the instructions in the screen of the machine.

Please wait in the brown waiting room to be called by your name.

The secretaries in the brown waiting room do not manage our agenda since they are from another department, do not announce yourself to them.

Scheduling the interview

The schedule follows a triage priority, this means that the agenda for interviews is assigned according to the priority for treatments, and not by date of arrival of the referral.

Once your initial referral is accepted, you will have received an SMS of confirmation, this means that you are now on the appointment scheduling list.

If the waiting list is longer than 6 months for a treatment, the  appointments for interviews are scheduled approximately 6 months in advance of the treatment start date.

Goal

Know the patient, establish the indication for the treatment, rule out contraindications and provide information.

The purpose of the interview is to get to know the patient and their health status, the reason why our services are required and to establish if there is an appropriate indication. Also to rules out possible contraindications that may exist which could prevent the procedure from being performed. Additionally, this space is used to provide information about what the procedure consists of and what the plan to follow is, with general recommendations and indications.

Goal

What to expect

  • An interview normally last between 30 to 60 minutes (sometimes can be less or more, depending on the needs)

  • During the interview the doctor will ask questions about your health and medications that you may be taking.

  • The doctor may perform an examination measuring your blood pressure, listening to your heart and lungs.

  • If your treatment is due to a wound, the doctor may require to inspect, measure and record with photos.

Note: Interviews are usually by foreign doctors, and the conversation will be in English. If the person only speaks Icelandic, it is recommended that they attend with a family member or companion who can assist. If this is not possible, we can arrange for a translator.

Expect

Scheduling the treatment

Once the doctor has stablished the treatment plan, he will arrange together with you a schedule in the agenda to start with the treatment, otherwise a secretary will contact you by phone to schedule the treatment.

  • The schedule follows a triage priority, this means that treatments agenda is assigned according to the priority of patients and the availability of the department.

  • It is possible that patients that had an interview after you can receive a higher priority and start the treatment before if their condition is more urgent and cannot wait.
